Vehicle Storage Requirements
Airline Self Storage is a security-fenced, fully-enclosed facility with keypad gate access, 24/7 video surveillance, and on-site management.
We offer paved parking spaces for cars, trucks, campers, trailers, RVs, and boats. Motorcycles may be stored inside units only.
When renting a parking space, bring the following four (4) documents with you to be photocopied:
- Tenant’s driver’s license;
- Vehicle title;
- Proof of insurance; and
- Copy of current state registration.
Rules
- All vehicles stored at Airline Self Storage must be roadworthy and must be maintained to meet the following requirements at all times:
- Operational: Vehicles must be in working order and must be driven to the facility; not towed or stored on blocks. Vehicles must be kept in condition so they can be driven off-site.
- Parking Lines: Vehicles must be parked within side parking space lines and positioned completely in the space. For RV/boat spaces, vehicles must be positioned completely behind the dotted line near the space number.
- Vehicle Length: At all times, the length of a vehicle is defined as the outermost point on the back of the vehicle including bumper, spare tire, trailer hitches, etc. to the outermost point on the front of the vehicle including any extensions such as a trailer tongue and coupler, tow bars, bumper lips, hitches, etc. You may not store a vehicle longer than its assigned parking space.
- Mirrors, Windows, etc.: Once parked, all RVs, campers, vans, half-ton+ sized trucks, and the like must fold all side mirrors inward against the body of the vehicle. For all vehicles, check and completely close the windows, doors, hood and trunk, and lock the vehicle.
- Clean: Give your vehicle a thorough cleaning inside and out before parking. This is a simple step that helps protect your vehicle from elements that can damage paint, lead to rust, or attract rodents or other critters due to trash, food, or the alluring shelter parked vehicles can provide. Do not leave ANY items inside or outside the vehicle, especially garbage, old clothes, bags, or food of any kind (opened or closed) as these can develop odors that attract bugs, etc.
- Covers: Our site manager will do a visual inspection of your vehicle to determine if a cover is mandatory. Assume it is. Car covers are required for all damaged, rusted, unsightly, or old-model cars and trucks. Tarps are required to cover boats. A well-fitted, breathable cover can protect your vehicle from dust, pollen, scratches, etc. We also offer covered-parking under our solar-array which adds an extra layer of protection from UV rays, rain, hail, heat damage, etc. that can occur when a vehicle is exposed to the elements.
- Licenses: All vehicles must have current license plates. All tags and/or inspection stickers that expire while a vehicle is in storage must be renewed within thirty (30) days or the vehicle is subject to towing.
- Repairs: You may not perform repair or body work on any vehicle on-site.
- Tires: Slightly over-inflate your tires on vehicles that will be left for months. Any flat tires must be fixed within seven (7) days of notice. While in storage, tires must remain inflated and be inspected for signs of dry rot. We have a free, self-service, tire-air-compressor on site at the end of F-building. There is also an electrical outlet there so you can connect vacuums or other small appliances to help you clean your vehicle and keep your tires in order.
- Insurance: Your insurance must cover Airline Self Storage and all others from damages done while parking, operating, or storing your vehicle. This includes any manner in which your vehicle damages a structure or someone else’s vehicle or person.
- Stains or Damage to Asphalt or Concrete: Leaks from vehicles that cause damage to asphalt or concrete will be assessed a damage fee equal to the cost of repairs, plus 25%.
- Tarps: Vehicles stored inside units are required to have water-proof, tear-resistant tarps completely under the vehicle to protect concrete floors from fluid leaks.
- Towing: Vehicles sixty (60) days past due are subject to towing at owner’s risk and expense.
Suggestions
- Consider Disconnecting the Battery: This is especially important over winter. If a car, truck, or RV sits for an extended period, the battery will inevitability lose its charge. We can jump a dead battery for you, but it requires that we keep charged equipment on hand and it takes the site manager away from other tasks. Thus, there is a $15 fee. We’d much prefer that you do not need this service.
- Protect from Fluid Damage: Change the oil and fluids off-site prior to storage. Doing so can remove contaminates that may damage the vehicle and engine over time. This step also helps prevent leaks and keeps your car in good condition during storage. Do not store extra fluids in the vehicle.
- Avoid Flat Spots on Your Tires: Long-term storage can be cruel to tires. Starting the vehicle periodically and driving it on public roads can help avoid this. If that is not an option, products like tire-saving ramps distribute a vehicle's weight evenly across the tires to prevent flat spots.
- Protect Against Rodents, Ants, and Other Critters Inside and Out: Stored vehicles make attractive shelters for critters. As the rules state, do not leave food items in or around your vehicle, even unopened food items. You can also protect your vehicle from bugs and other critters by covering the exhaust pipe and air intake with aluminum foil. This is especially true for vehicles that will be sitting for long periods of time.
- Fill the Gas Tank: Store your vehicle with a full gas tank to protect it from moisture that can cause rust and other problems. Consider adding a fuel stabilizer to your tank (many last up to a year) to prevent gummy buildup. After adding the stabilizer, take your vehicle for a quick drive to mix the fluids.
- Do Not Use a Parking Brake: A parking brake is usually a safety measure, but in storage, using it can harm the vehicle. When locked for a long time, a parking brake can corrode and attach to rotors. If you are concerned about movement (especially for RVs and boats), use parking stops or chucks to keep your vehicle from being pushed out of position.
